How to Use and Apply Link Builder
Your website needs the Platforms.js script embedded for the tags in a generated link to be carried through to the donation.
Open Link Builder from the subscription menu in Engage, the same menu you use to switch between subscriptions, and sign in with your usual Engage account. If you have access to more than one subscription you are asked which one the link is for.
On the Link Builder screen:
- Input the page address you want to send people to. This is any page on your website, and everything else on the screen is added to it.
- Choose from the presets your administrator has set up. Selecting one fills in several tags at once.
- Set the UTM parameters, which are the standard ones that Google Analytics also reads.
- Set the analytics tags, which are Engage's own
ntm_parameters covering the advertising platform, campaign, ad group and advert. - Add any custom tags specific to your organisation that the other sections do not cover.
You do not have to complete every section. Use the ones that describe where the link is being published and leave the rest.
The generated link is shown at the bottom of the screen and updates as you work. Copy it and use it wherever the campaign appears.
Build a separate link for each place a campaign appears, changing only the tag that tells them apart. The same appeal sent by email and posted on social media wants two links differing in utm_medium, so your reporting can show which of the two brought the donations in.
Donations arriving through a generated link carry its tags into Engage, where they are grouped for reporting by the analytics fields your administrator has set up.
