ChatGPT

Who can use this feature?

Someone on your team who uses ChatGPT, working with your N3O contact. Your workspace administrator may have to allow developer mode first.

ChatGPT reaches N3O Cloud through developer mode, which lets you create an app from an MCP server. You give ChatGPT your subscription's address, and each person signs in with their own N3O Cloud account. What the server is and what it can do is on the MCP Server page.

Before you start

Ask your N3O contact to turn the server on for your subscription, to confirm that ChatGPT is supported, and to give you your subscription's address. The address is the only thing you need from N3O.

Availability

Whether your account has developer mode, and whether your workspace allows it, is OpenAI's to set and it changes, so read their ChatGPT developer mode before you start. Ask your workspace administrator if you cannot find the setting.

Turning on developer mode

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Security and login.
  2. Turn on Developer mode.

Creating the app

  1. Open the Plugins page in ChatGPT and select the plus button. It creates a developer mode app only once developer mode is on.
  2. Enter N3O as the name, along with a description your team will recognise.
  3. Under Connection, choose the option for a public endpoint and enter your subscription's address.
  4. For authentication choose OAuth. Leave any client ID and client secret blank unless your N3O contact has given them to you.
  5. Create the app, and sign in with your own N3O Cloud account when ChatGPT asks you to.

The app then appears under Drafts in your app settings. Its details page lists the tools the server offers, and it is where you turn an individual tool off or refresh the app to pick up tools N3O has added since.

Using it in a conversation

Choose Developer mode from the plus menu, and select the N3O app for that conversation. Naming the app in what you ask helps, such as asking the N3O app to find an account, because ChatGPT has its own tools to choose from as well.

What ChatGPT asks before it acts

A tool that changes a record needs your confirmation before ChatGPT runs it. Read what it is about to send. You can tell ChatGPT to remember your answer for the rest of a conversation, so keep that for a tool you are content for it to run unwatched.

OpenAI describes developer mode as carrying elevated risk, and intends it for people who understand how to configure and test an app safely. A mistaken change is still a change, so review what you approve.
